Ash Clouds continue to disrupt flights

05/05/2010
Glasgow, Prestwick, Derry, Dublin and Belfast Airports are all likely to be affected by the volcanic ash clouds from Iceland today.

However, despite earlier predicitons that the ash cloud would drift Southwards, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says the South of England is unlikely to be affected today. At just after 0700BST, Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of the CAA, told the BBC the risk of closures in much of the UK was likely to recede during the day. He said "The weather fronts overnight suggest the wind pattern will be more due Northerly, and that will mean that while Southern Ireland may still continue to be affected and maybe Northern Ireland, in mainland UK the risk should be receding."
