Phytosanitary Certification 
Documentation from agricultural authority to state shipment has been inspected and is clear from harmful pests and plant diseases.

Port 
Sea destination used to harbour ocean vessels.

Promissory Notes 
A written contract requesting payment on demand or at a stated time.

Quarantine Regulations 
Regulations concerning the isolation of a vehicle, person, animal or material held at a port of entry suspect of carrying a contagious disease.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) 
Electronic replacement for bar codes, using radio waves to identify consignment details from a tag inserted into a container.

Ro-ro 
Vessels enabling goods to be ‘rolled on’ and ‘rolled off’ by the use of ramps.

Sectorial Commission for the Common market of the South (Mercosur)
Area in South America providing free movement of goods, services and production factors.

Simple Trade Procedures Board (SITPRO) 
UK’s trade facilitation agency focused on making international trade easier and more effective.

Single Administration Document (SAD) 
A legal document detailing the declaration of exported goods.

Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) 
The average of a selection of currencies used to maintain stability through currency fluctuation on the foreign exchange market.

Standard Trading Conditions (STC) 2000 BIFA 
Terms and conditions between two contracting parties for accepting cargo by shipping lines, airlines and logistics providers.

Terminal Handling Charge (THC) 
Standard charge at port terminal for handling cargo from sea to land.

Terms of Sale 
Terms which define delivery and payment details from exporter to importer.

Transports International Routiers (TIR) 
International agreement enabling goods transported by road to bypass customs boarders without in depth checks. 

Track and Trace 
Electronic tracking system allowing customers to trace the journey of their goods. 

UK Customs Tariff 
Government tax applied to imports or exports.

UN Certification (dangerous goods) 
An allocated certificate and corresponding number given to identify dangerous goods. 

Unit Load Devices (ULDs) 
Specialised pallets or containers used to load cargo onto the hold of an aircraft.

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
Intergovernmental United Nations department responsible for trade, investment and development.

Uniform Customs & Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP) 
Rules and regulations concerning letters of credit in relation to international trade.
